A Journey of Destiny and Discovery

I Never Chose to be a Monk

Born under a Bilva tree in the dense forests of Northeastern India, life was very simple – jumping across tree vines with friends, snatching fruit and vegetables from the local vendor’s carts, hiding from carnivorous beasts lurking around the perimeters of our socially disconnected village. But a play of destiny and my intense curiosity brought me in the midst of a chaotic, bustling Indian city. I was lost – hundreds of miles away from home at age 5. As fortune would have it, a generous couple took me under their shelter and offered me to a fledgling monastery. An illiterate village bumpkin was now going to learn the deepest sciences that Eastern wisdom had to offer, under some of the most intense teachers.

A Seeker’s Journey Through Darkness

My Inquisitiveness of the Cosmos’ Secrets, Cost me my Innocence

I spent my first 10 years studying the sciences of Bhakti, Advaita Vedanta, Samskaras, Nyaya Sutras, Ayurveda, Marma, Yoga and a myriad of other Eastern philosophical schools of thought. Learning Sanskrit and communicating in over 10 languages with my international cohort of peers was mind boggling. I studied under and served mystics hidden away across India – from the Himalayan forests in the North, to the river banks of the South; from the deserts of Rajasthan in the west, to the mangrove plains in the east. I was deeply inquisitive of the universe, and I would not rest unless she revealed her secrets to me.

I spent the next 17 years leading the monastery, providing education to younger students and efficiently managing the minimal resources the community had to offer its residents. I spent time working with the UN, collecting data and implementing a peaceful solution to provide basic healthcare and food security to warring factions of the greater counties around us. I spent much time protecting it from dacoits and unscrupulous politicians trying to manipulate us into giving away our lands and resources.

But I could no longer remain oblivious to the turmoil happening within the monastery (and my heart). I saw the intense cruelty, indoctrination and hopelessness inflicted on the younger children and disadvantaged sections of our monastic community in the name of “spiritual self-defense against the materialistic world”. To lie despite being a monk, just to shield oneself from the duplicity of society, but bypass my own existential need for love and acceptance, was driving me insane. And when I became a victim of the raging urges of some uncontrollable forces, I chose to walk at night to the great Indian Ganges, and jump into her deep waters to commit suicide.

Lessons From Life’s Extremes

The Willingness to Find the Virtue in Trauma, Changed my Destiny Forever

Just as I prepared my mental state to accept the finality of death, a strong wind pushed me away from the mighty river’s shores. A sweet song reverberated through my consciousness, asking me to forgive and grow beyond my pain. I chose to count my blessings, and discover my true purpose in the galaxy. I chose to blossom from the cocoon of hard knocks into a beautiful butterfly. I moved continents, searching deeply within for pearl-like realizations, and without in the form of deep spiritual teachers. I meditated intensely in spiritual energy vortices around the globe, and studied the exalted yet practical emotions stringing my heart as I interacted with the beautiful wisdom of saints and seers long gone.

Beyond Mentor, Beyond Teacher

Today, I Travel the World Sharing the Gifts of my Teachers

In my journeys to find the essence of my existence, I have met over 2500+ sincere souls over the last 2 decades, all enchanted by my story and willing to sacrifice their fear of uncertainty, to join me on my journey. I do travel around the world to speak at universities, corporate institutions and spiritual communities. I do serve hundreds of people at workshops, retreats and private coaching across 10 countries. But my journey’s best moments have come when I join in deep contemplation with each soul I meet, and co-discover the answers to their biggest questions about their dharma, or eternal purpose.

Healing Our Divisions: One World, One Family

To learn, I teach. To love, I serve.

In a world torn apart by religious, social, national and cultural divides, I have only one message: that the world is one family, and the animosities we feel towards opposing parties are simply a reflection of our inner heartspace. Instead of attempting to control, agonize over or reject seemingly contradictory thoughts, let us celebrate the human values of love, compassion, peace, and non-violence, that unite us all at our essence, and direct us to offer our unique colors in a diverse palette on the painting of our lives.

My life’s dream is to touch the hearts of 1 million souls, and co-create ways to actuate our spiritual fulfillment into service projects that transform our communities at all levels – resourcefully, emotionally and spiritually. To serve that purpose, I have co-founded 2 initiatives: the Mindful Seva Institute, to offer self-development programs worldwide for inner growth and peace, and Food4Lives, an initiative to feed, house, educate and empower people from the bottom of the social barrel.
